What is a certificate of conformity for a vehicle?
The certificate of conformity is an attestation which certifies that the vehicle, when it leaves the factory, complies with and meets all the requirements established by the EU with regard to CE approval and European certificate of conformity. A vehicle with a European certificate of conformity is therefore compliant in Europe and can therefore travel freely in all European countries because its certificate of conformity proves its approval by European type. Also the so-called European certificate of conformity is valid throughout the European community in order to obtain the gray card. The certificate of conformity is only possible for vehicles manufactured for the European market.
A vehicle approved by a CE Type with Community type approval can therefore be registered in all countries of the European Union thanks to its COC or European Certificate of Conformity. The latter includes all the technical data of the vehicle, namely its identification by 17-character chassis number, the model and make of the vehicle, the Community approval number indicated in section K of the gray card, the different weights of the vehicle, as well as other technical data.
Does the European certificate of conformity have to be in UK?
In general, the European certificate of conformity is in the language of the manufacturer. Certificates of conformity are issued in German for German vehicles such as Audi or VW, in Italian for Italian vehicles such as Fiat, Spanish, in UK, etc. In accordance with the directive which made the European certificate of conformity, all cocs are accepted in all European countries regardless of the language of the certificate of conformity. This means that certificates of conformity must be accepted in any language.
Duration of obtaining the certificate of conformity
The time periods for obtaining the certificate of conformity is variable depending on the brand of the vehicle and the place of the first registration of the vehicle. It takes 5 to 7 days for a certificate of conformity Also, VW, Peugeot, Citroën, Mini or Bmw and 15 days for Renault or Dacia.
In general, the certificate of conformity is delivered within a maximum period of 4 weeks.

The certificate of conformity for a motorcycle
We can also issue the certificate of conformity or attestation of conformity for imported motorcycles. However, there are motorcycles where the certificate of conformity is not possible because of the unrestrained power of the engine.

The certificate of conformity is only possible for vehicles manufactured for the European market.
Also, there is no certificate of conformity for your car from the USA or Japan. Any time it is possible to have in certain cases, a partial certificate of conformity allowing to make an isolated reception of your vehicle at my DREAL.

It is possible for certain models, to have a certificate of conformity if the section of the letter K of the gray card contains a Community approval number.
If not, you will be sent a certificate of identification to a national type, document which replaces the certificate of conformity but valid only in France.

Certificate of Conformity required to obtain a gray card
For any request for registration of an imported car or motorcycle, the Prefecture will ask you for the original Certificate of Conformity and therefore copies are refused.
